A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Southern College of Optometry to compare the efficacy and the perceived ease of use, comfort and safety of the S5 Mini™ to the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™ which is considered to be the gold standard lens insertion method. 

Study highlights include:

  • The S5 Mini™ helped participants insert their lenses with 2.8 fewer insertion attempts per eye compared to the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™ (P < 0.0001).
  • The time needed to successfully insert a lens with the DMV® was 50% longer than the time needed with the S5 Mini™.
  • When asked to compare the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™ to the S5 Mini™, participants rated the S5 Mini™ as:
    • Safer ✓
    • Easier to use ✓
    • More comfortable ✓
    • Having an easier learning curve ✓

2) Is the S5 Insertion System™ compatible with all types of contact lenses?

Yes. While the S5 Insertion System™ currently ships with a lens holder that is optimized for scleral and hybrid lenses, we offer a lens holder upon request that will allow you to use your device to insert soft lenses, corneal gas permeable lenses and Ortho-K lenses.
